Japan Travel & Quarantine Requirements
There are several latest updates related to the requirements for travel and quarantine for business purposes to Japan.
1. Application by ERFS
Entry restrictions for business residents, technical trainees and international students will be greatly relaxed from March 1, and work visas will resume. However, a new process has been added to this, and Innovare Japan will apply for entry to the Immigration Bureau through ERFS.
2. Quarantine Regulations
Quarantine period for travelers who are fully vaccinated approved by the Japanese government and possess appropriate vaccine certificates will be shortened or exempted from waiting for quarantine. This applies to new and re-entry visitors, returning Japanese nationals and permanent residents.
A) Returnees / immigrants from designated countries* who DO NOT have a vaccination certificate
If the result of the PCR test received at the accommodation secured by the quarantine station on the third day after entry is negative, the quarantine station shall not require home isolation once the traveler has left the said accommodation.
B) Returnees / immigrants from designated countries* who hold a vaccination certificate that meets the requirements
In principle, if you request a 7-day home isolation and report to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare the negative results of the tests (PCR test or antigen quantitative test) voluntarily received after the third day after entering Japan, the traveler will not be required to observe home isolation after confirmation by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
C) Returnees / immigrants from countries OTHER THAN the designated countries* who DO NOT have a vaccination certificate (but must present a vaccination exemption certificate)
In principle, if you request a 7-day home isolation and report to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare the negative results of the tests (PCR test or antigen quantitative test) voluntarily received after the third day after entering Japan, the traveler will not be required to continue waiting at home after confirmation by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
D) Returnees / immigrants from countries OTHER THAN the designated countries* who have a vaccination certificate that meets the requirements
There shall be no requirement to observe home isolation after entry into Japan.
United Arab Emirates, Albania, Israel, Italy, Iraq, Iran, India, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, United Kingdom, Egypt, Oman, Canada, South Korea, Cambodia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Switzerland, Sweden, Sri Lanka, Denmark, Germany, Turkey, Nepal, Norway, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, France, Peru, Myanmar, Mexico, Maldives, Mongolia, Jordan, Lebanon, Russia
Please note you can use public transportation when you opt to do home isolation.
3. Vaccination Requirements
In principle, vaccination certificates for COVID 19 infections that are recognized as valid shall fall under A or B.
A) Certificates issued in Japan that fall under any of the following and are found to have been vaccinated two or three times issued by the Japanese government or medical institutions
B) Certificates issued in foreign countries must meet all 1 to 3
1) Name, date of birth, vaccine name or manufacturer, vaccination date, vaccination times number must be listed in Japanese or English
If the certificate of vaccination is written other than Japanese or English, it will be considered effective if a translation of the vaccination certificate (Japanese or English) is attached and the contents of the inoculation certificate can be determined.
2) Have received two or three doses of the vaccine designated by the Japanese government.
3) The certificate must be issued by the government or a public institution.
